A veces esta tarea de periodista, nos depara sorpresas. Kill With Hate es una de ellas. Primero, porque no conocía mucho de la escena Húngara (mas allá del disco de Gutted que reseñamos hace un tiempo) y segundo, porque en esta banda encontramos a Márton Hartvig, guitarrista de la banda que habla español. asi que nos aprovechamos de su nobleza y le enviamos algunas preguntas y le pedimos que las tradujera al ingles. Si, no solo toca en la banda, tiene buena onda, si no que ademas, fue nuestro redactor invitado para su propia nota. GRACIAS MÁRTON!!

Arranquemos por el principio: ¿cómo y cuándo formaron la banda?

Márton Hartvig: El grupo fue formado en 2007. Kill With Hate existía antes también, desde 2004, pero en 2007 Khrul, el baterista, y Tamás Meilinger bajista decidieron a elevar el grupo a un nivel más serio. Tamás empezó a buscar miembros para el grupo y encontró a mí (Márton Hartvig) y Ákos Olt. En Diciembre de 2007 tuvimos dos conciertos, pero sin vocalista todavía. En 2008 Krisztián Gyémánt entró al grupo como vocalista. Su presencia fue muy inspirativa, porque él ya era un vocalista muy conocido en la escena de metal de Hungría. Antes cantaba en el grupo Sin of Kain, que era un grupo bastante famoso. Él conocía a muchos organizadores de conciertos, así en 2008 ya logramos a tener un concierto con Onslaught.

Mientras tanto estábamos escribiendo nuestras canciones. En 2009 comenzamos a grabar nuestro primero EP, llamado “Evolution of the Beast”. Un poco antes de la salida del EP, Khrul, el fundador del grupo decidió a dejar de tocar la batería, así abandonó Kill With Hate. Él fue sustituido por Bence Turcsák. Yo le conocí en el grupo Limb For A Limb. Yo formaba parte de aquel grupo desde 2008 hasta el fin de 2009.

En 2010 ya tuvimos muchos conciertos, y logramos tener conciertos juntos con grupos como Belphegor, As I Lay Dying y Job For A Cowboy. En 2011 Tamás Meilinger decidió a abandonar el grupo. Patrik Pornói fue el nuevo bajista. Él fue recomendado por Khrul, porque ellos ya habían trabajado juntos en el grupo black metal “Funebre”. Patrik logró a aprender las canciones rápidamente. Desde 2011 no tuvimos cambios en el grupo.

Cuáles son las principales influencias de la banda?

Márton Hartvig: Todos tienen diferentes influencias en el grupo. Por mi parte Fear Factory y Zyklon eran los grupos que influyeron mucho mi estilo de tocar la guitarra. Si hablamos de las letras de las canciones, mi influencia más fuerte es la realidad. Las letras de nuestro EP fueron inspirados por Josef Fritzl, el hombre que cerró su hija en el sótano por 30 años, y la violó varias veces. Estas letras fueron escritas por Khrul. Para “Voices…” yo escribí las letras. La historia de “Voices…” trata de un hombre, a quién dios le releva y le ordena que limpie el mundo de la gente impura.  La historia fue totalmente ficcional, pero el día cuando lo escribí, Anders Behring Breivik mató a 77 personas en Noruega por razones similares. Esto tuvo un poco de influencia en mis letras, después.

Para conocerlos un poco mejor, a nivel musical, ¿nos podrían decir que están escuchando en este momento en sus reproductores, autos, etc.?

Mientras estoy respondiendo a tus preguntas estoy escuchando a Pain, el grupo de Peter Tägtgren. Yo escucho a muchísimos grupos de metal y de no-metal también, desde Django Reinhardt hasta Brain Drill.

¿Cómo se las arreglan para componer? ¿Es algo en conjunto, alguien lleva una idea y la desarrollan..?

Exactamente! Alguien lleva una idea al ensayo, y la desarrollamos juntos. Para nuestro segundo álbum Bence también empezó a componer canciones. Es un poco diferente con él, porque él compone canciones enteras en guitarpro, pero creo que los desarrollaremos juntos también.

Al ver la tapa de “Voices Of Obliteration” y el anterior EP de 2010 “Evolution Of The Beast”; y las imágenes de su página web, vemos que es muy importante para la banda una imagen shoqueante. ¿Cómo llegaron a esta imagen? ¿Cómo despliegan esto en vivo?

Naturalmente es muy importante, que las tapas sean shoqueantes, pero es algo natural para nosotros. O sea, nunca queríamos que sean shoqueantes, pero son así por alguna razón. La tapa de “Voices…” fue mi idea. Yo pensaba tener una tapa, que era brutal pero era un poco metafórica también, pero la mayoría no llegó a interpretarlo. Para mí, es una expresión de esquizofrenia.

En vivo también intentamos a crear una atmósfera muy oscura. Intentamos comunicar muy poco con la audiencia, para que el concierto sea más inhumano y dejamos muy poco espacio entre las canciones. Todavía seguimos desarrollando nuestros conciertos en este aspecto, pero según mi opinión está mejorando.

Hablando del vivo, sabemos que firmaron para participar de Wacken Open Air 2013, que para el metal es como el Olimpo. ¿Que sientes ustedes haber logrado esto? ¿Cómo se preparan para ello?

Lo del Wacken es algo increíble para nosotros. Estamos haciendo Kill With Hate hace 6 años y ya tenemos esta oportunidad fantástica, mientras otros grupos siguen funcionando por 15 o más años, y siguen tocando ante 10-20 personas cada noche.

Para Wacken intentamos mejorar nuestra presencia en la escena. Tenemos algunas ideas para hacerlo, pero todavía no las concretamos. Seguramente habrá alguna grabación del concierto, así van a poder ver nuestros resultados. También acabamos de producir nuevas camisetas y otras cosas para vender allí.

¿Que otros recitales tienen planeado?

Antes de Wacken vamos a tener un concierto con Krisiun y un otro con Lock-up, ambos en Julio. Planeamos un tour también para Noviembre, pero no sabemos nada exacto de esto todavía.

Aquí en Sudamérica es muy poco lo que se conoce de la escena metálica Húngara. ¿Que nos pueden contar acerca de ella?

Esto no me sorprende mucho, porque nuestra escena no es tan grande. Creó que Ektomorf es el grupo más conocido internacionalmente de Hungría. Además el cantante de Mayhem, Attila Csihar también es húngaro. Lamentablemente muy poca gente escucha música metálica en Hungría, así es muy difícil para los grupos, porque poca gente va para verles en vivo.  La mayoría de los grupos no siente ningún avance, y dejan de tocar música después de muy poco tiempo. Si quieren conocer algunos grupos de Hungría, os recomiendo Neokhrome, Gutted (tenemos la reseña de su disco aqui, en mp3), Sin of God, Limb For A Limb y Effrontery. Estos grupos son muy buenos según mi opinión y vale la pena escuchar a su música.

¿Cuáles son los próximos pasos a seguir por ¿Kill With Hate?

Ya tenemos ideas para 2 álbumes, pero todavía desarrollamos pocas de ellas. 2013 es el año de conciertos para nosotros. En 2014 ya queremos concentrar a nuestro próximo álbum. Ahora Kill With Hate está en un estado donde tomar un descanso significaría la muerte. Tenemos que seguir trabajando, porque los resultados son increíbles. En 6 años sólo, ya logramos a realizar muchos de nuestros sueños, así no queremos para ahora, ni en el próximo futuro.

Unas últimas palabras para los lectores de Argentina y Sudamérica…

Es una honra enorme para nosotros, que nuestra música llegó hasta Sudamérica también. Es verdaderamente increíble, y espero que podamos visitarles dentro de poco. Esto tiene poca probabilidad desgraciadamente pero esperamos lo mejor!

Let’s start at the beginning: how and when you formed the band?

Márton Hartvig: The band was formed in 2007. Kill With Hate existed before that too, since 2004, but Khrul, the drummer, and Tamás Meilinger decided to raise the band to a more serious level in 2007. Tamás began looking for members for the band, and found Ákos Olt and me. In December we already had two gigs, without a Singer yet. In 2008 Krisztián Gyémánt joined the band as a Singer. His presence was very inspiring for us, as he was a very well known Singer in the hungarian underground scene in that time. He used to sing in Sin of Kain, which was a rather famous band. He knew many concert organizers, so in 2008 we already had a chance to share stage with Onslaught.

All the while we were composing our songs. In 2009 we began recording our first EP, entitled “Evolution of the Beast”. Shortly before the release of the EP, Khrul, founding member of the band decided to quit drumming, so he left the band. He was replaced by Bence Turcsák. I got to know him, while we were playing together in the band called Limb For A Limb. I played in that band from 2008 to the end of 2009.

In 2010 we had many gigs, and managed to share stage with bands like Belphegor, As I Lay Dying and Job For a Cowboy. In 2011 Tamás Meilinger, founding bassist, decided to leave the band. He was replaced by Patrik Pornói. He was recommended to us by Khrul, as they played together before in the black metal band “Funebre”. Patrik managed to learn the songs quickly. Since 2011 we didn’t have any lineup changes.

What are the main influences of the band?

Márton Hartvig: Everybody has different influences in the band. For my part it was Fear Factory and Zyklon, that inspired my guitar playing style the most. As for the lyrics, the most important influence is reality.  The lyrics for the EP were inspired by the case of Josef Fritzl, the man who locked his daughter in his basement and regularly raped him for 30 years. These lyrics were written by Khrul.The story of “Voices…” was written by me, and it was a fictional story of a man, who one day sees God, and God comands him to purify the Earth from the filth. This story was meant to be totally fictional, but the day I made up this story, Anders Behring Breivik commited his infamous mass murder in Norway for similar reasons. This had some influence later on my lyrics.

To know you a little better, musically, could you tell us you’re listening to right now in your players, cars, etc..?

Márton Hartvig:  While I’m writing the answers I’m listening to Pain, Peter Tägtgren’s band. I listen to many-many bands of metal and non-metal too, ranging from Django Reinhardt to Brain Drill.

How do you manage to compose? Do something together, somebody has an idea and develop it between all ..?

Márton Hartvig: We do it the old fashioned way, so somebody has an idea, he brings it to the rehearsal, and there we start working with it. For our second album Bence began composing music too. He does a bit differently, he writes everything in guitarpro alone, but I figure we’ll develop these ideas together too.

Seeing the cover of «Voices Of Obliteration» and the previous EP 2010 «Evolution Of The Beast» and the images on your website, we see that it is very important to the band an shocking image. How they came to this image? How to display this in the live shows?

Naturally it is important, to have shocking covers, but it’s a natural thing for us. I mean we don’t really think about making them shocking, it just becomes so for some reason. The cover art for Voices was my idea. I wanted to have a brutal cover, that had some subliminal meaning too, but most people don’t realice that I think.  For me it is some sort of expression of scizophrenia.

Speaking of live, we know who signed to participate in Wacken Open Air 2013, which for the metal is like the Olympus. What do you feel you have achieved this? How to prepare for it?

This Wacken thing is truly incredible for us. We’ve been together for just 6 years and we already have this fantastic opportunity, while many other bands have been working their asses off for 15 or more years, and they keep playing for 10-20 people each night.

We are planning to make our stage presence a bit stronger. We have some ideas, but we didn’t develop them so far. There surely will be some recording of the concert, so you’ll see the results. We’ve made some special merch stuff for this Wacken occasion too.

Which other gigs have planned?

Before Wacken we are going to have a concert together with Krisiun, then another one with Lock-up, both in July. There is a tour in plans for November, but nothing exact can be known about this at this time.

Here in South America is very little that is known of the Hungarian metal scene. What can you tell us about it?

This isn’t so surprising for me, because our scene is not that big, you know. I think the most well-known metal band would be Ektomorf from Hungary. Furthermore the Singer of Mayhem, Attila Csihar is also hungarian. Sadly enough very few people listen to metal here, so it is very difficult for the bands around here, as they have to keep playing to very tiny crowds at times. Many bands don’t feel any advancing, so they Split-up very son. If you want to know some awesome bands from Hungary, I would recommend Neokhrome, Gutted (see the review of his latest cd here in mp3), Sin Of God, Limb For A Limb and Effrontery. I think these bands deserve attention.

What are the next steps for Kill With Hate?

We already have ideas for the next two albums, but we didn’t start working on them so far. 2013 is about having as many concerts as possible for us. In 2014 we’ll focus on the next album. I think Kill With Hate won’t take any break anytime soon, because that would kill the band. We have to keep going, because we’ve already achieved incredible things. In just 6 years we already realized many of our dreams, so we stop at nothing now!

It’s a great honor for us, that our music got to South America too. It’s really incredible for us, and of course we can’t wait to visit you. It’s not likely that we can go to you anytime soon, but let’s hope the best!
